Vintage Rossland
I found this cool vintage postcard yesterday at the local pharmacy. This is Rossland's Le Roi Mine and the picture was taken in 1910 (photo courtesy of the local museum).
The back of the card gives more details. The tallest building is the "headframe." The second-tallest is the ore sorting building. The third tallest building housed the hoist. This mine was the richest in the town, and the "hoist cables ran from the hoist to the top of the headframe, and down into the main mine shaft." The mine was shut down in 1929, and the buildings are gone now. But, you can take a tour of part of the premises. For details, visit the official Rossland Museum site.

sometimes I fish for trout in the Crowsnest Pass. You can see all kinds of evidence of mining through there as well.
Yep, there's all kinds of lovely natural resources in them thar hills.
The shape of that building is pretty cool isn't it? I guess for the snow to fall off with that extreme slant?
This is an awesome photo - of an awesome building - I love the old vintage photos - and I have dreams of getting good at the metal smithing so I can incorporate them into pieces of art......
Candy: yep. Many of the towns buildings have steep roofs like that so the snow will slide off.
Gard: I wish there were more of these funky old places around town...
