A proud tradition

I read today that lead singer for the Canadian band, The Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page (yes the one who was all over the news a while back) and the rest of the band have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. Somebody told me that Steven is going to chase a Broadway career. I wish him and the band both best success.

The proud tradition of band members mutually agreeing to part ways is what a certain pal of mine calls artistic differences (as in, Shane left the Pogues due to artistic differences, and like that).

Does it make me a bad Canadian that I am unperturbed by Stephen Page leading the Barenaked Ladies? I think it might.

Well, thats the end of an era. They were one of the hardest working bands around playing ridiculous amounts of live shows per year. They are also some of the nicest and coolest folks.I can imagine Page getting some comedic roles in the future...they are all really funny. I love their theme song for one of my fave tv shows "The Big Bang Theory".

We really need to decriminalize drugs. So many social issues, addiction problems and criminal elements would be cleared up and put into a realitic common sense position.

Well, twenty years is a long time to work with the same bunch of people, making more or less the same kind of music. It must be a real strain creatively to keep it up. I read today that Page has had some good recent success writing scores for theatre, and I can see that being very rewarding. I hope it's a good move for him, and I also hope that the other guys in the band are still able to do some quality fun projects too, and keep making a decent living making music.

I never really liked their music, but they were a bunch of nice guys. I met them twice years ago. I think that they will be considerable less than the sum of the parts, if you know what I am trying to say.

I had the same reaction as you and as Barb B over there. I like the BLs but...hope they continue to rock.
