What's your favourite duet?

Hands down, mine is Shane MacGowan and the late Kirsty MacCall singing Fairytale of New York.

Kirsty MacCall, daughter of folksinger Ewan MacCall, had some high points in her career, but did not enjoy the level of success MacGowan enjoyed with the Pogues. She did do this catchy rocker though, which I really like:

Another duet I used to quite like a lot was Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard singing Pancho and Lefty:

Then I heard the song's writer, the late Townes van Zandt play it, and since can't imagine it sung by anyone else.
Here's Townes talking about the tune.

...and here he is playing it on his own

Favourite Duets...honourable mentions

The Louvin Brothers: I don't believe you've met my baby
Sam More and Lou Reed: Soul Man
Sonny and Cher: I got you babe
Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash: Girl from the North Country
Ian and Sylvia: Four Strong Winds This video was shot at a reunion concert filmed at Canada's Wonderland. Tuffy P and I were there. I heard an interview once with Mr. Tyson talking about that song. He hadn't done much songwriting at the time, but he heard Bob Dylan play Blowin in the Wind in NYC and thought he could maybe write a better wind song than that.

Here's Ian and Sylvia from their early days doing the best song I know about a dog, Old Blue

I'm going to close this long post about duets with Don and Phil, the Everly Brothers, singing Bye Bye Love.

So, what's your favourite duet?

I love Willie Nelson. You have to give an honourable mention to "To All the Girls I Loved Before" with Julio Iglesias just because we've all had to dance to it with sweaty drunks at so many weddings that it starts to become a old familiar friend.

I have got to back you on Fairytale of New York. It's hands down my favourite duet.

I would also add Ciao! by Jarvis Cocker and Lush, I Hate Vermont by the Smittens, and Anybody Else But You by the Moldy Peaches (although it sort of got overplayed since Juno).

ANYTHING by Louis Prima and Keely Smith although I'm partial to their renditions of 'Greenback Dollar Bill' and 'Embracable You' from 'Live From Las Vegas' recorded in the 50s or early 60s

You've already mentioned my favorite which is the Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan song.
I also love listening to Paul Simon and Linda Ronstadt's duet on the album Graceland. They sing "Under African Skies" together. It's a beautiful song.

Well, the Iggy Pop song "Candy" was for funny. But I thought you might find the Nick Cave duets compelling. I love all three duets...but the Cave ones are really cool. I like the videos themselves too.
