I didn't even realize Gentle on my Mind was a hobo ballad until I heard Johnny Cash sing it.


The tune was written by the late John Hartford but is probably most closely associated with Glen Campbell, who used the tune as the theme for his late 60s TV variety show. I always felt that Mr. Campbell played the song too fast. When I heard the Johnny Cash version on Unearthed, with Glen Campbell subtly singing backup, I thought my God what a beautiful melancholy song.
