Fireworks and other things that go bang

I'm not a fan of fireworks. I mean, once in a while, say every few years, I like to see a big display. A few years ago, we saw some at City Hall that were pretty good. I'm good for a few more years. What I don't like at all are fireworks set off in the street. The noises scare the cats...a lot. That will happen tonight and/or tomorrow night here in Toronto.

I don't understand why they bother. Instead of a burst of colour, they get a bang and a bright light. Wow. A couple years ago, some of the neighbours were firing Roman Candles at each other, and pretty much every time, I think somebody's house is going to burn down for sure. Fortunately it hasn't happened around here yet.

Maybe it's just me. I'm not big on the loud noises. I can live without things that go fast too. I don't care for ATVs or snowmobiles or personal watercraft. I'm OK with motorcycles...I just don't want to ride one.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. Is that anchovy guy already a crank or is he rapidly approaching crankhood? You be the judge.

I honestly don't get fireworks, either. They're a pain in the neck - literally.

Definitely not a crank, Mr. A, unless I'm there with ya. Smokey reacts the same way, and it must freak out the other animals nearby and little kids.

Color's nice tho.

There are so many aging rockers with tinnitus, you'd think that loud would be passe by now!

I'm with you too!
I've got several neighbors that don't have a pot to pee in, but they'll spend several hundred dollars every year on illegal fireworks. That's not MY idea of patriotic! :(

Oh, finally! Like minded people in regard to Fireworks - blowing up money in a poof of noxious noise and smoke and getting excited about it has always puzzled me. Exposing your kids and your pets and property to burning up, getting digits blown off, or just plain being in terror somehow does not compute to fun for me either.

I have seen some pretty displays but, again, what's the point? Isn't there anyone in town without food that night, or anyone who can't afford to pay their utility or medical or pharmacy bills that could benefit from the currency being exploded into the air?

History shows what our country's independence cost our forefathers. It wasn't cheap, it cost their lives, their livelihoods, their reputations, sometimes their families. In fact I wonder where our guts are now....as we stand by and watch our country lose so much of what it stands for, all the while playing the star spangled banner and shooting fireworks at our neighbor's belongings which were purchased from China while our neighbors lose their jobs and homes on a daily basis to a crumbling economy that exploits the poor and enriches the greedy.....grrrrrrrrrrrrr....happy 4th of July everyone....endure - it will be over in a few days.... until New Year's Fireworks......

Reemmber when we went down to the lake for fireworks...probably the May 24 weekend...it had to be or labour Day because we had to all snuggle together with Tiff because we were freezing!

I like watching them...they make me feel like I'm on acid.

Meanwhile god knows what kinds of materials they are made out of...

If only they were silent. They frighten the cats too much and there's no fun in that.
