Ike Turner RIP

Ike Turner has died at 76. Mr. Turner, along with his band The Kings of Rhythm, were hugely important to early rock and roll. In fact it was Turner's band who recorded what is arguably the first rock and roll song, Rocket 88, recorded on Sun in Memphis in 1951 (and credited to vocalist / sax player Jackie Brenston). Turner may be THE most recorded bluesman ever. He was a piano player long before he met Tina and became a guitar picker.

Talented at music and knocking ten bells out of Tina. Still, most geniuses are flawed I suppose...

I think he also did some time after cops caught him with a batch of white powder in his trunk a few years back.

Quite a guy - I'm surprised he lived so long. I always like Tina best though because of the abuse allegations........he looked like a rough kind of guy - doesn't say he wasn't brilliant though
