Congratulations to Elizabeth Hay

Elizabeth Hay is the winner of the Giller Prize for literature for her third novel, Late Nights on Air. From the Globe and Mail, "The novel...is set mostly in the CBC Radio station in Yellowknife during the mid-seventies against the backdrop of Mr. Justice Thomas Berger's famous inquiry into the possible effects of the Mackenzie Valley pipeline. The last third of the book is devoted to an epic canoe trip taken by four characters in Ms. Hay's ensemble cast who trace the route of a real-life doomed Arctic explorer, Englishman John Hornby. (Ms. Hay lived in Yellowknife from 1974 to 1978 and worked as a broadcaster.)".

I haven't read this one yet, but it's on my list. If you've read it, please share your thoughts.

Sorry, I've never heard of her. Let me know how it goes. The plot doesn't really sound like something that would interest me...except for the weather part. I'm more of a "death, life, outdoor adventure inter-speices" kind of book lover when it comes to novels. But I went and read an interview with her online and the weather aspects sound interesting...
