96 tears
The other day I posted Mendocino by the Sir Douglas Quintet. It reminded me of 96 tears by ? and the Mysterians. Interesting tune....almost rock&roll, almost tex-mex, extra cheese with that organ, waiter.
There are a few bands in the known universe that haven't played this tune, but I'll spare you.

That would be a Farfisa synthesizer my dear and this song is famous for such an organ alright. Made in Italy I believe...
Candy, I can see why you would say it was recorded with a Farfisa, and many people would agree with you......but I am certain it was actually recorded on a VOX Continental.
Can you play this on the accordion?

Ah...well it's so funny because EVERYONE thought it was a Farfisa organ...and sales and awareness for the Farfisa went nuts. Bands saved their money to buy a Farfisa. I found an article from Rolling Stone that says ? said it was actually a Vox organ.
I can't help but wonder if there may be some advertising story that hides behind all this..
It's weird because I always assumed they were a Latin group and no wonder they used a Latin style synthesizer. And...that so many people heck I wonder if Craig knows it may not be a Farfisa?
The VOX and the Farfisa both had plenty of cheese. I wouldn't mind either around the house. ? and the Mysterians were from Flint Michigan but they are a Tex-Mex band in my little brain. I believe that ? heard (hears?) voices and comes from another planet. Perhaps he is related to SunRa. Listen to Auggie Meyers play on the Mendocino video I posted the other day. The organ sound has the same flavour.
? has said he is from another planet...he is linked to Sun Ra in articles and interviews, to inspire Prince/symbol and they were all mexicans-americans in the band. I am sure it would be a terrific movie.
No one has commented on the popularity of this song likely because it is so dirty.
