Hanging a painting
Well, today, we hung the Mike Hansen work, Port du Montreuil, we bought at the Pouch Cove auction. Those of you who have visited Anchovy World Headquarters will know that we live in a very small house packed with a lot of art. Each year, we try to set aside some money to buy a work of art - usually, but not exclusively by living Canadian artists. The Hansen is not a small painting - plus it is irregular and sculptural, and there are limited spots in the house where it can be hung. So, we hung it in the living room, a simple act that caused us to re-hang just about every work in the house, as each change initiated another change. We were at it for hours this evening, and several rooms now have different art in different groupings - different conversations. We had tremendous fun doing it.

I like it. I can imagine how it would shift the whole place. It would alter the balance of a room, the shape...well everything. Well worth it though. It's a great piece.
It is hard to see in the picture, but the left side comes out from the wall several inches and the surface is like waves from left to right. It is done in encaustic, so the surface quality is really interesting too.
Wonderful painting, and it certainly looks large in the photo.
I love the idea that it jutts out from the wall a little.
Loos great and sounds like the hanging was a kind of spring cleaning...good to mix it up
That sounds fun for sure! I was thinking on having an "Open House" some Saturday afternoon in the summer. My idea is to send out invitations akin to a gallery opening, hence I will rehang my pieces to the best advantage.
