Library thing
Well, Candy posted about Library Thing the other day...and I too found it facsinating to consider the books I recall reading. Some of them are books that are around the house; others I read and passed on. I catalogued a bunch of them - some recent reads and some that I read ages and ages ago. I'm missing loads of them, but that's OK. I'll add to it from time-to-time. You can rate books, write reviews, obtain recommendations, compare your lists with other readers' lists. You can also get a blog widget that enables you to display a random selection from your library. There are groups and forums available as well. You can see selections from my library on my sidebar...just scroll down....or you can click to see everything I catalogued so far.

Oh my god...you really did catalogue of books...I'm having trouble remembering them all...but I just saw some on your list that sparked some memories. I once tried to write ina book all the books I had ever read...I've still got it somewhere. Then, I started a little box of file cards and I would write a short book review or an impression or a quote form a book after I read it...I found it really kept the book in my awareness plus, I had this idea others could look at ti and see if there was a book they were interested in reading. It was very nerdy...but I liked writing an impression on an index card after reading a book.
I entered the ones that came to mind....there are loads that I've managed to forget, some because they stink, but others because my memory for these things isn't the best.
You'd think that, as a Librarian, I would have dome this ages ago. Maybe someday I'll get around to it.
I walked around ehre and entered my books literally, Stagg called some out to me, nd then I also tried to just remember..you know there used to be a movie site like this years ago...like 1999-2000 and Anita and I went crazy on it.
I tried to find it last night but hey had changed formats or run out of funding or somethign. It was awesome called movie critic I think. and you rated 30 movies off the start, then could add more. The program was a movie recommendation site. So the more movies you entered into your file, the more closely they would recommend movies. You could add another member along with your own name. So Anita and I could put our names into the program together and it would suggest movies we would be likely to enjoy. It wa sso addictive and really accurate! I had loaded 2000 movies or more into my file of ratings. And it would end up recommending movies, some I ahd already seen but not rated...and it was almost always able to find movies I would like.
The library thing does this to a degree...but it's ore literal. It suggests books that have similar words in the title...rather than measuring your rating of a book. the movie site was cool because it took into account your rating of a film for it's further recommendations.
I checked out who else had Trout Madness in their library....a indicator of the best taste to be sure....
