I was very moved when I saw her in a documentary once, she was asked about the racism they faced touring the U.S. in the 50's and what she wanted their legacy to be for musicians today. (I'm probably paraphrasing badly) But I remember her giving that sharp look that she has and declaring "We paid that bill for you, ...that bill has been paid in full"

I've read that she was also one of countless musicians who made plenty of money for the record companies but not so much for themselves.
