I saw the post in the NY times about it. I printed it off for my Son's scrap book. Seeing he started out as a Punk Rocker and now has migrated to Metal. CBGB's is an icon to him. He hoped it would stay open long enough for him to play at, but alas it did not. :(
How strange it must seem to my gentle readers to see a post about Patti Smith, rocker-poet and CBGB's, end-or-the-road punk club....right after a post remembering Freddy Fender, Tex Mex ballad singer. hmmmmm.....
I read this a couple of days ago. I never went, though it would have been cool. Perhaps less cool in 2006 than in the 70s... The end of an era, no doubt.
I heard a clip of Smith addressing the crowd at CBGBs, and I loved that she was so supportive about the future for the next generation of music makers. She said they will make their own spaces for their music, and she gave the impression that things come and go, and did not link it with sadness or joy..... Patti Smith is so very, very cool.
