Heart of Gold

We went out to see the Neil Young flick, Heart of Gold, tonight. It was filmed in August of 2005 at the Ryman, in Nashville. We visited Nashville about a month after that, and saw the Lucinda Williams show at the Ryman. It is a fantastic place to see a show - and full of history - although the audience sits on wooden church pews, charming but hardly comfortable. The film was very good - the first half is all new tunes, and the second half covers the playbook - particularly fine was an inspired version of Four Strong Winds, the Ian Tyson Canadian classic. The band is good - lots of singers, including Emmy-Lou and a a Fisk University choir - The Memphis Horns - Spooner Oldham on B3. I can only compare concert movies to The Last Waltz. OK, this wasn't as good as the Last Waltz....but it was very enjoyable. 4 anchovies.

After the film, we walked over to Indochine. This place is a blast from the past for us. We used to be regulars years ago, when it was the Saigon Star. The food is still very nicely prepared - I'd call it French-Vietnamese. Moderate pricing. Nice place for dinner after the show.
