More Samples from the Diversity Table
Nature is so rich and we see so little. If I were out collecting mushrooms on my own, there is no way I could hope to find this variety. But 15 sets of eyes, 15 brains, and look what we find in just two hours. And these pictures show just a few samples.
There was so much information to take in, by the time the ID session was 3/4 through, my brain was full. No more please. But there were many more. I learned plenty, but if tomorrow or next week I can identify five or six more mushrooms than I could before I'll have done well.
Not only is the mushroom kingdom remarkably diverse, a good deal of it has hardly been studied. That is a lot to wrap one's brain around.

Holy smokes - that's amazing!
I see someone found a big honkin Hericum. If you ever find one don't pass it by, they are choice eating but not all that common.. sal
How wonderful. I am so glad you are feeling there is a lot to learn about. Mushrooms are a wonderful adventure!
Sal,
That was the one fungus on the table that was brought in by someone, collected the day before, and not actually part of yesterday's foray.
It's not a feeling. In fact there is a lot to learn about, an enormous amount. There is a lot that hasn't been studied, and now it won't be studied in the old way. Instead it will be studied using DNA.
that last mushroom is really wild
By feeling I meant I am so glad this course is exciting and keeping your passion for mushrooms. I was responding to the excitement in your posts...not the science aspect. Sorry if the choice of the word feeling sounded less valuable than the amount of knowledge you are studying. I was happy to see you enjoying the course so much, thats all.
:)
There is so much to learn. I am a novice, but just in a couple of weeks I've learned so much just by picking and bringing them home to identify.
I always enjoy your mushroom pictures.
This is starting to sound really fun. Have you considered getting a really nice notebook, colored pencils, sketching the mushrooms and making notes? Would be a piece of art in itself and also would be a beautiful way to preserve everything you are learning as well as be fabulous reference material. You are probably already doing this...
I am taking an immunity capsule made up of many different mushrooms - some even have cancer fighting properties - all very interesting!
I think it's local name is masrum. I like this food.
