an unmarked grave....

Clarence Gatemouth Brown's grave unmarked

I was over visiting Squeeze my Lemon and read this sad article. Three years have passed since his death and Mr. Brown's grave remains unmarked.
"This oversight is being addressed by local educator Robert Finch, who is working with the guitarist's brother, Bobby Brown, in an attempt to raise money to buy a tombstone to mark Brown's grave."

I recall being at a Clarence Gatemouth Brown show in Toronto a number of years ago. It might have been at Albert's Hall at the Bruswick House, but I'm not positive. I do recall a few things about the show. One was that he brought a child on stage, a little girl I think. He played fiddle while she sang You are my Sunshine. It was really very weird, out of place in the show. He made some comment about having to get special permission for her to sing in a bar. I also recall there was a harmonica player in the crowd, and it seemed that Brown and the harp player knew one another. Brown invited the harp player to join him on stage for a song, and that was fine. After that, Brown wanted the harp player to leave the stage and stop playing, but the harp player didn't want to stop. I recall it being a really tense moment. As I recall, the rest of the show was pretty good. His kind of blues has never really resonated with me the way it has with many listeners and players, but I appreciated his musicianship and the intensity of his performance.
