True Believer

This 1989 film stars James Woods and Robert Downey Jr. Woods plays a burnt out civil right lawyer who has spent the past decade defending drug dealers, and Downey plays a young lawyer who gets a gig working with Woods based on his earlier reputation. They take on an old murder case to free a guy in prison who has just killed a guy in self-defense. The whole business is pretty convoluted.

I wonder if this film was more or less the basis of the TV show Shark? Overall, it's an OK time-waster, nothing special - except it's worth watching just to see the long hippity-dippity wig they put on James Woods. That was jolly. On the 5 fish anchovy rating scale, this one gets 2 tired old salties.

By the way, Happy New Years everybody. I'll be checking in before I go to bed tonight to see if anyone has come up with the last contest of 2007 answer after my oh-so-generous clue - but my bet is that finally I may have you clever readers stumped. Har!

Although I haven't seen this movie in years, one of the few things I remember about it was James Woods' fake ponytail. Since "True Believer" wasn't a huge hit at the box office, I was surprised that it was adapted into a TV show a couple of years later (the 1991 ABC drama "Eddie Dodd" starring Treat Williams in the James Woods role).

Btw, I added you to my blogroll earlier today.
