310 to Yuma - the first one

The original was released in August 1957, just over 50 years ago. It stars Glenn Ford as Wade and Van Heflin (sporting what looks like a bad toupe) as Dan the rancher. I reported recently that I thought the remake was excellent, and now I can say that they had a lot of good material to work with, as the original is a first-rate oater. Interestingly, there are parts of the film in which the dialogue has been lifted verbatum for the remake, yet at the same time, there are a number of important differences between the film, most notably the ending. The cinematography is excellent in this film. It was in part filmed on location in Arizona. Lighting is dramatic throughout, almost noir. The acting and the script are both excellent. I'm not sure which of the films I prefer, the original or the remake. See them both and tell me what you think.

On the 5 fish anchovy rating scale, the 1957 310 to Yuma gets a boxcar full of salties.

Heard this advertised recently. I'll give it a go. I have seen the original but can't really remember it. Long time ago.

I'd recommend 'This is England' if you want a bloody good current movie.

Bridget, which cat are you talking about? The cat on my banner is Jerry, who lives here at Anchovy World Headquarters. We have 6 - Jerry, William, Rossi, Shadow, Delia and Spud.
