I was talking with a friend this afternoon about that Sun records sound from Memphis in the 50s - some people say that Rocket 88, written by Ike Turner (I once heard a radio show that suggested James Cotton co-wrote it), was the so-called 'first rock and roll song'. It was recorded in 1951.

This video features the hot James Cotton Band from the 70s tearing up the song.
