Steve Earle and The Del McCoury Band at Farm Aid

These guys work very well together. I like the way they use one microphone and move in and out of centre stage. Steve Earle wrote a bunch of great bluegrass tunes at that time, recorded on The Mountain, a cd that sounds fresh and fabulous every time I hear it.

Wow! That is so great! I've always worshipped Steve Earle, now I can worship Del McCoury.

If you like these clips, you'll love The Mountain, which is one of my fave CDs. Del McCoury was once the guitar picker in Bill Monroe's band. He and his band are tops in the Bluegrass world in my books. I'm a big fan of Steve Earle too!

I didn't know he played with Bill Monroe. (I have a four CD set of Monroe's work. Beautiful stuff.)

LM, he joined the Bluegrass Boys in 1963 and stayed for about a year. He thought he was auditioning as a banjo-picker, but Mr. Monroe wanted him on guitar. There is a good biohere.

Thanks for that link.

I remember reading that Bill Monroe was a real martinet, when they weren't touring he made his band work on his farm.
