Love those outfits

cumbia, originally uploaded by mister anchovy.

Now, if I ever start up a little combo, I want outfits like thse guys have. As well, this guy is playing a beautiful Gabbanelli button box!

October 13 - I'd better talk a bit about the music, too. Some of you will have read my notes on some Vallanoto music I've been listening too. This CD is on the opposite side of the Colombian musical spectrum. These guys are more ballroom cumbia than mountain cumbia. The music is rich and orchestrated and glitzy, and as my friend Rik pointed out, they would not be uncomfortable playing in Vegas. That said, there is some very nice playing on this CD, and it will get occasional play here on Planet Anchovy. How, you might ask, did I end up with a CD like this? Regular readers of this here blog know I gravitate toward the rootsier musical forms. Well, the Emperor of Ephemera has been at it again. He sent a big box full of goodies that arrived on our doorstep yesterday, and this was but one of the items inside. There is plenty more to listen to and to review. Stay tuned.

You know anch, I thought of you when we were in the Metro in Montreal.
There was a busker in McGill station who was playing accordion. A Japanese guy playing french jigs.
It was fabulous.

very cool! I've thought about doing a little busking with my button box - maybe playing some Portuguese folk tunes somewhere along St. Clair. I'm not quite there yet, but one of these days.....

Why does the guy with the accordian look so familiar? I just cannot figure it out!
