Court blocks St. Clair transit right-of-way

I was surprised to hear on the radio news this afternoon that a three-judge panel ruled in favour of residents opposing a separate right-of-way for streetcars on St. Clair Ave today, at a judicial review. We can expect to see details and reasons in the papers soon. This is amazing as the TTC was ready to begin laying track. The city has15 days to appeal. I had thought this was a done deal, and that the city was going to force through the right-of-way regardless of community concerns. It isn't over by a long-shot, though. Stay tuned.

My feelings about this are mied. I can't believe a small community stopped development for a whole avenue. This NIMBY stuff is getting way out of hand.

I am interested in hearing the reasons. I also have mixed feelings about it, but I had hoped that it would encourage greater use of the TTC.

I have mixed feelings too. If you had asked me a few years ago, when I lived down at Niagara and King, I might have said, sure, go ahead. Now I know the St. Clair community, I live here, my neighbours are here, and I worry about how it will change. I'm not convinced that Spadina changed for the better at all. I want transit to be good and efficient for sure. I used to take the St Clair car to work all the time. It was pretty good, although from time to time, they bunched up, and they would short-turn at Lansdowne.

Hah, thank you for understanding that I meant "mixed" and not "mied", what is wrong with me and this keyboard? :)
