Just got back from the Daniel Lanois show.....
We were at the Daniel Lanois show at the Wintergarden Theatre tonight, here in Toronto. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It turned out to be a warm and generous show, rich in beautifully textured instrumentation, including several instrumentals, featuring Lanois on pedal steel. The Wintergarden was the perfect venue. For those not from Toronto, here is a quote from the website: "Designated a national historic site in 1982, the Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre Centre is the last "double-decker" or stacked Edwardian theatre facility in the world. Built in 1913 as the flagship of the famous Loews chain of vaudeville theatres, the 1,500-seat Elgin theatre (downstairs) is a sumptuous affair with royal boxes and exquisite gilded plaster details. Upstairs, however, is the magical Winter Garden, named for the trompe l'oeil paintings of vines and pastoral, and the fabulous simulated fire-proof garden that hangs from the roof, including thousands of beech boughs. Multi-million dollar renovations mean that for all the ambiance, these two theatres are state-of-the-art".

I am a Daniel Lanois fan, but couldn't make it to the show. I am jealous :-) I think he's an excellent musician.
Man you are lucky to be in Toronto. I hope you realize that now and then EH!
fritz....ya, I know I'm lucky. For all its problems, Toronto is a great place to live.
zydeco fish...the guy from the Tragically Hip joined Lanois on stage to sing one tune....there were a couple other guests as well. The drummer was awesome - Brian Blade....he played on Weird Bob's Time out of Mind too I think.
Right, Brian Blade. I've heard he's good.
I have been a Daniel Lanois fan since I first heard him on Mountain Stage, probably 20 years ago. Someplace arund here I have cassettes I recorded of his appearances on Mtn. Stage and A Prarie Home Companion.
