The Blackfly Song

I made an allusion to the "little blackfly" in the post below...it comes from this wonderful Canadian classic, by Wade Hemsworth - The Blackfly Song. This site has the melody and the words. I heard Mr. Hemsworth sing it live years ago at Mariposa. It was a very special experience for me, because his songs simply embody the Ontario northland.

Now was it Stompin Tom or my old buddy Melwood Cutlery who wrote a Can classic 'Bug Juice'??

"Bug juice on my windshield" -good funny tune about summer bug splatter.

Blacklflies are known as Bibittes in Quebec....trans "little F-$%|##@*&?-'n buggers.

I have cottagers and dog walkers who swear by keeping a BOUNCE FABRIC SHEET (unscented only they say!!!) in your pockets when you are out in mossie and bibbit season. You are supposed to rub it on your arms and it keeps them away!

I CAN'T TRY THIS AS I AM ALLERGIC TO bOUNCE SHEETS... Maybe a new Canuck tradition will start of Fab sheets in your tackle box....keep a box in your car.
