short movie review - Sideways

We went to see Sideways the other night. The reason we saw it was that I was resisting The Aviator (if I had realized it was a Scorceze film, I might have gone willingly), and this one seemed to be different from the pack.

Any way I try to describe this film makes it sound like it isn't up to much - two guys on a roadtrip in winecountry - hmmmm. Turns out it is a really well made, credible, romantic comedy - well written and well acted - and at times, very, very funny. This film will particularly please those who are interested in good wines, particularly California wines, as there is a tremendous amount of wine-related detail shared throughout.

The movie deals with relationships (the guys as well as their relationships to the women in the film), fidelity, and hope. The characters are screwed up, like most of us, and the adventures they stumble through along the way are delightful.

This one is worth making the effort to see. I give it 3 anchovies.

both movies are on my go see list....but since you give it ***anchovies, I will see Sideways first. Incidentally, my son and daughter-in-law saw Aviator and loved it. Terrific performances by Di Caprio, Beckinsdale, Blanchett.

Question: do you (or your myriad readers) know anything about a band from Montreal named Arcade Fire? I heard one of their songs on a local college station and was knocked out!
