Rat, mice infestation closes Toronto Loblaws

I am not making this up
Toronto Public Health says it is laying three charges against the store, with maximum fines of $25,000 per charge if convicted, after several health violations were found, in addition to scurrying mice and evidence of rats.

I know this store well. I've shopped there many times. This is bad news for Loblaws for sure, but bad news for the big grocery chains in general. Hopefully this incident will light a fire under city inspectors and also prompt store managers to be thorough and careful about cleaning. I'm sure this isn't the only store with problems, and I'll bet more will come to light over the next few days.

Pretty scary to learn that infestations show up in high profile grocers like Loblaws. Makes me wonder what goes unseen at other locations. Uckk!

Oh, this doesn't surprise me in the least. I'm sure there are rats & other vermin in places that would make us all want to puke.

I love this line in the newspaper report:"Toronto Public Health says customers who bought food that appears to have been nibbled on by rodents should not consume it and bring it back to the store."

Your tax dollars at work!

That can't be good. They need a couple of store cats.

I heard a follow-up report on the radio that said the City did a reinspection and the store still had problems. They have to sanitize the entire store.
