Proud Canadian Moments - the butter tart

We didn't just invent the Robertson screwdriver you know. We aced it when we figured out the magic of the butter tart.

My mom made awesomely unbelievable butter tarts. Food of the gods, perfection on a plate. Alas, she's been gone a long time now. I learned from her how to cook many things but she never showed me butter tarts. I'm confident though that somewhere out there someone has been holding onto the perfect butter tart recipe complete with step-by-step instructions for the butter tart novices among us... Please and thank you!

I've got a recipe for the dough, but I think my filling is different. My filling is like pecan pie filling. Email me if you want the recipe.

Hi Mr. Anchovy,

They look delicious! The only family recipe I have that's remotely Canadian (Scotland by way of Ontario) is my father's family's take on shortbread. Hard as a rock, the way we like it :-)

Here's what I really want to find: a recipe for Scottish Fern Cakes! Any ideas?

BTW, thanks for the nice comment about my new book on the Let's Polka blog!

Blair,
A friend suggested you check out this link for a good fern cake recipe.

Best success for your book!

Mmmmm... I haven't had butter tarts in years, but I can almost taste them looking at that photo.

I used to have an amazing recipe for them, but my recipe book went missing somewhere between Toronto and Salamanca.

Speaking of Canadians (weren't we?) have you ever seen Kevin's Woodshed? This post made me think of you and I thought you'd enjoy it.

Hey Az, I've never been to this Woodshed, but I'll head right on over. Thanks for the tip.
