Engine 143 and Ramblin Jack

Folkies in the crowd will know Engine 143 as a Carter Family tune. Here's another version by master song interpreter Ramblin Jack Elliott. Marty Stuart is accompanying.

Ramblin Jack sure knows how to get everything that can be got out of a song. Enjoy this beautiful piece. It's from the 2006 SXSW Hootenanny.

Now let's go back in time and hear Jack play Woody Guthrie's Talkin Merchant Marine.

I love his understated approach to this song.

Here he is in the 70s, with an electric guitar, playing with Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Review. Salt Pork West Virginia. MacNeil, MacNeil, don't steal my automobile.
Check out the players...Mick Ronson's there, Roger McGuinn, Howie Wyeth, Rob Stoner, David Mansfield....
