Uncharted Waters

What an interesting and possibly historic turn of events in our federal politics today. Imagine a coalition government sending Harper packing? I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall as the opposition parties actually started to see the possibility in front of them, and come to agreements many Canadians would never have thought possible.

So what do you think? Do you want to see it happen? Is it healthy for the country? Can a coalition help stabilize the economy? Is it good riddance for an arrogant Prime Minister?

Interesting stuff. This is what I like about the set up of the Canadian governemnt.

I was so relieve this past election that Harper basically got ousted at least as far as opposing seats...yipppeeee. I mean he is hardly in a position of leadership since the election.

But this move is even better. I mean he is really a "decorative politician" anyways after the election in Oct...but how interesting this turn of further events is going to be...

I'm delighted, we are now living in an Anthony Trollope novel.

I would like to be a fly on the wall in the PMO right now - ranting, raving, outrageous, nasty strategies to try whatever it takes to stay in power, etc.

Yes, I want to see this coalition happen. The 3 leaders of each party looked determined & sure, steady & calm & appear to truly care about the welfare of this country - as opposed to a sociopathic, obsessed, megalomaniac, divisive, secretive, lying PM who only wants to decimate anything, or anyone, who gets in his way of his agenda. An agenda that would cripple this country & completely disenfranchise the poor & to some degree the middle class. He is a VERY sick man.

Whether we get this coalition depends on a few factors one of them the GG. I am hoping she will not be abused & manipulated by Harper into doing his bidding. He is dangerous & I put nothing past him. His desire for absolute power knows no bounds or limitations.

Er, did I say I don't care much for Harper? ;)

Prime Minister Dion just rolls off my lips as smooth as honey & very, very sweet. :)

I am all for this coalition and for sending Stevie packing, but I am not in favour of bailing out the auto industry, if that's what's on the coalition's agenda.

MY only feeling of negativity about this situation is that..the people already spoke with their vote.

The people did not give ANYONE full power. They took the major thrust of power away from Harper...which is what is so wonderful about how our parlimentary system is set up. Harper not in full power...a figurehead at this point...he can't make full decisions. Meanwhile...Dion did not get enough votes to be PM and th e people spoke there too...and the people did not give NDP full seas either.

So...although I love it that Harper is a figure head...I also respect that Dion was not elected PM.

I would prefer for the government now as it is to work things out. I believe the NDP and Libs ar making a point to show public how weak Harper's position is right now. I suspect they were disappointed at the votes...and most people assumed Harper "won"...he didn't actually except as a figurehead.

I don't think we need to oust Harper...but I am also okay with the grandstanding...which is what I feel NDP and Libs are actually doing. I guess they want the public to know Harper is not really in position of power.

Lots of folks were sad when he got re-elected...whereas...I was like YAH! he didn't get any votes or power!

So...I suspect this is an educational program rather than a coup...but whatever...

The right coalition could help stabilize a government - the whole world is wobbling because of the economy - I'm not sure that we might not need to form an economic coaltion for world economics to get back on track....

It sounds like your Harper was from the same cut of wool as our Bush...

I'm all for the coalition for two reasons:
a. it would rid us of Harper and his party's policies.
b. it's almost like a new invention and to think that the Bloc are part of the coalition. If it goes ahead, I'm very interested to see how the parties work together. What a refreshing change.
I love it!

I am in favour. After all, most people voted against Harper.

Dunno about Canada but we need a full scale revolution over here if we're to have a fighting chance.
