I know...I've been gone, and you've had to get your accordion fix elsewhere...
But have no fear, I'm back, and I'll fix you up right away. Here's a polkita by Jerry and the Rufnex. Breathe deep.

Foe a second I thought that I saw Mr A. in the background on percussion...next time I'm around I'll video him onto youtube with my new pocket video camera!
We went to visit Staggs granma yesterday and she calls polka "the polish hop" I thought that was adorable.
What a great video. I'm guessing the "ita" in polkita suggests the Mexican flavour to the music? Something about it reminded me of my time in Mexico (it could have been all the cowboy hats though).
Here is something you might find interesting:

Sp, I think the "ita" or "ito" is a diminutive, so a little polka down in the Texas border country becomes a polkita. If you listen to Texas Tornados, when they would turn to Flaco Jimenez for a squeeze box solo, they would often say, in unison, "Flacito!". Flaco means skinny, so they were saying, here's the little skinny one.
Candy, that was a really interesting article. I haven't blogged about the US election much because, well, what can I add that isn't a cliche. It just seems to me that America has reached deep and chosen hope and change and the whole business is really fantastic. I sure hope Mr. Obama is able to carry out a good chunk of the change that is expected of him. America is quite a conservative country.
uhhh thanks?
c'mon Bridget, I know you're a closet polka lover. Fess up!
Hey Timmer, that would be great...we'll need someone on scrub-board!
