A dog named Seaman?
Here's an interesting article about a dog named Seaman. Seaman was the Newfoundland who accompanied Lewis and Clark on their expeditions.
Seaman once diverted a charging buffalo from stampeding Lewis and Clark's tent while they slept in it at one of their encampments. Another time, he showed off his swimming ability by drowning and retrieving a deer that had fled into the river after one of the explorers shot it.
I've been reading up about Newfoundlands because we'd like to add a Newfoundland pup to the Anchovy clan in the spring. We particularly like the Landseer Newfoundlands, which are the white and black ones.
Landseers were named after the British painter Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (March 7, 1802 - October 1, 1873), because in 1838 he created the painting The Distinguished Member of the Humane Society, which depicts a white and black Newfoundland.

I didn't know Newfoundlands came in spots! They are adorable. I give the stamp of approval on acquiring one.
Me either! I thought they were just solid black...and HUGE! But they're adorable.
Yes they are huge. Besides the blacks and the landseers, there are also bronze Newfs and grey ones too.
GET THE PUPPY.
GET THE PUPPY.
You'll note how something snaps in my brain at the mention of baby dogs.
(Bat-boy hates puppies, they make him insanely jealous)
What a gorgeous animal. How have the cats voted? Yay, or Nay?
we aren't giving them a vote on this...but I'm expecting we can integrate a a newf puppy with them reasonably well.
