Cops charges "stayed" due to court delays - something is very wrong

The Ontario government may examine the justice system following the staying of corruption charges against six Toronto drug squad officers, Premier Dalton McGuinty said on Saturday.

According to the article, this group of policemen were charged in 2004 with extortion, obstruction of justice, assault, perjury, and theft. It is alleged that they falsified notes, police records, testimony, and failed to account for drugs and money seized during arrests.

The notion that the our justice system couldn't manage to prosecute these officers on a timely basis is frankly unbelievable and unacceptable. After the charges were laid, 200+ cases the officers were involved with had to be dropped.
