Donnie Brasco

We watched this one New Years Day. I think I may be one of the few people in the Western World who hadn't seen this 1997 film. Al Pacino and Johnny Depp worked so well together! It isn't in the same league as The Godfather or Goodfellas, but never-the-less, this is a very good gangster film, well worth watching.

I love this one...own it seen it like 50 times. When pacino puts the watch, ring and wallet in his bureau...ouch. I watched Depp on Actor's Studio the other day and he was saying how much care he wanted to play Brasco with was pretty interesting...spent a lot of time with the real guy interviewing etc. What a shitty job, it is a good buddy film and tough to reconcile the betrayal all at the same time...

I love catching up on movies that I might have missed or didn't have time to see.

I've never seen it either! I was burnt out on mafia movies when it came out, I couldn't contemplate seeing another.

But with your recommendation and Zydeco Fish's, I'll add it to my list.

I saw this recently for the first time too. It's a grisly film that elevated it to the top of the gangster film genre for me. There's something very "real" about it beyond the "based on a true story." I found it riveting.
