Breaking Bread
Those readers outside Canada may not be aware that this is Thanksgiving weekend in Canada. Our family gets together each Thanksgiving for dinner at Tuffy P's dad's cottage on Pigeon Lake in the Kawarthas. It was a lovely fall day to drive up there - the leaves are turning oranges and reds and the country is really beautiful. V. did the cooking today, and she made an excellent turkey dinner.
Yesterday, I did a little baking, and brought along the pictured olive bread.

How about the recipe for olive bread, would you share it? It looks wonderful! Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving. I miss the turning of the trees! The signs of fall down are very subtle.
Well Gardenia, I'm not a bread making expert, and so I more or less wing it... I used a cup of whole wheat flour and a cup of rye flour, and the rest white bread flour. I used your basic grocery store yeast, that I mixed up with warm water first. I used a little olive oil and a pinch of salt and a wee little bit of corn syrup. I mixed everything first with wooden spoon, then my hands, and I basically kneaded in the olives. This bread rose twice in a warm environment. On the surface I brushed on an egg white glaze before baking. I was going to bake this one on the bbq, but I lazied out and did it in the oven. It was pretty tasty.
Thanks. I'm going to try it. You cook like us - winging it, a pinch o this and a pinch o that....stir a bit .....we are huge olive fans here so we're going to like this! I hope I can do - will have to turn off the air conditioning for an afternoon!
