Funeral in Berlin

This somewhat obscure spy film was the follow-up to the more successful Ipcress File, starring Michael Caine as Harry Palmer. It is as good as this kind of genre flick gets. I enjoyed Michael Caine, complete with the splendid thick framed glasses and plenty of attitude. The film was set mostly in East and West Berlin in the mid-60s, and the scenery is about as you might expect, dominated by drab brown buildings and guard-towers. It comes complete with a twisty-turny plot about a defection, an ex-Nazi, some documents and some forged documents.

On the 5 fish anchovy scale, this one holds up well enough to get 3 salties. We're planning to also watch the other two in the 60's part of the series, The Ipcress File mentioned above, and the Billion Dollar Brain. Later, in the mid-90s, Caine returned to the role with Bullet to Beijing and Midnight in St. Petersburg, neither of which I've seen.
