The Angola Prison Rodeo?

Tuffy P. was surfin around the inner-nets, checking out fun things to do down in Louisiana (where we will be for a while in October), when she came across a website for the Angola Prison Rodeo. It is billed as the Wildest Show in the South. There is a full assortment of events available for the prison rodeo enthusiast. The prison history buff can even visit the museum, located just outside the gates.

I'm honest to god not making any of this up.

I checked into this - it seems Angola has a lot of positive things going on for a prison - there was an article once about a prisoner run newspaper that was really quite successful.

Sounds like a very interesting visit!

Prisons fascinate me because the U.S. has the most of any western country I've heard and because of private business taking many on, has become big business. I had to do a lot of research as the town in Wyoming that I worked in was in competition with two other towns for a new prison (already had one) as, hopefully, an economic boost.

Hope you are taking your accordian as you travel across cajun country! You might just run into a chance to join in!
