Movies
We watched a couple movies on DVD over the weekend. The first was Miller's Crossing, from 1990. Great performances - this film still holds up just fine - including the bizarre Danny Boy scene. The Coen boys really outdid themselves on this film. In a way it reminded me of The Wild Bunch - both are pretty much about outlaws and ethics.
Tonight we watched The Last Seduction, John Dahl's effort from 1995. I thought this one held up too, although Tuffy P started reading the newspaper less than half-way through. The only problem I had with The Last Seduction this time around was that I already knew the plot twists. Still, Linda Fiorentino does a great job playing the scheming nasty bitch. I may have mentioned before that I like have a soft spot for Mr. Dahl's films.
Miller's Crossing and The Last Seduction - both excellent renters.

Ah, Wendy Kroy... I remember her wily ways!
Two good films, for sure. I'm not sure where I stand regarding the Coen Brothers... I'm not sure they are as extraordinary as everybody else seems to think they are. Intolerable Cruelty, anyone? But Miller's Crossing is ace. And Fargo. and bits of the Hudsucker Proxy (mostly those with Jennifer Jason Leigh and Paul Newman).
I saw Miller's Crossing and thought it was the worst of the Coen's movies! I thought it was so boring! I could barely sit through it. Generally, I love the Coen brothers, though. The Big Lebowski is one of my all time favourites.
Miller's Crossing is awesome. John Tuturro's performance stands out in my mind.
How many Salties??
STAGG
Each of these films is good for several salties on Portuguese cornbread with a cold beer and a couple of dill pickles on the side.
I have always loved the music in "Miller's Crossing" and of course Gabriel Byrne.
I'm a Coen Brothers fan and I thought Miller's Crossing was incredible. The Danny Boy scene is brilliant. Jon Polito, Turturro are both fantastic. There is also a shot looking up at the trees in the woods that I remember feeling like that was very unique at the time.
I once went out with a guy who claimed to know all the lines from Miller's Crossing. I didn't believe him until we watched it together and he could say the line before the actor on screen did.
