a strange thing happened at drum class....

There we were, beating away on our djembes, trying to make the sounds right, and trying to stick to the two rhythms our teacher had happening, when in walks a small man - I would say he was a Chinese fellow. He was very drunk and the drumming was bothering him, and he was trying to get us to stop by making a series of hand signals. He seemed to be trying to say his head was spinning and he needed to sleep. It was only 5 minutes before class ended, but he was imploring us to stop by kneeling on the floor in the middle of the drum circle and bowing to each of the drummers. We were trying to signal that we play until 9:00 and we have 5 more minutes. Finally our teacher gently escorted him out and we finished class.

We had a number of people who had never played before at class today, so for a change I wasn't the most hopeless drummer there! The most difficult thing for me remains making the tone / slap sounds properly....but I'm working on it, and I will get it right eventually.

Very strange indeed! I seem to recall that the time I joined you there were some loud noises emitting from the apartment above. The owner surely has an agreement with the fellow? If I don't go to Ottawa this week I'll be definitely be attending Friday's session.
A woman at work has some connection in Africa who may be bringing me a drum for 50.US.

Wow a drum team!

Good Tim go Mr. A!

The guy must have had some kind of migraine...he's probably looking for a new apartment yikes.

How odd that was - perhaps the guy was asking how he could join in - humbling himself as an apprentice - I bet the Chinese culture bought into drumming would be very interesting indeed.....
