Papa was a Rolling Stone

While I was driving home from the salt mines this afternoon, Papa was a Rolling Stone popped into my head - the Zydeco version, by Chris Ardoin and Double Clutchin. Once day not too long ago, we had some friends over and I had this tune blasting. One fellow said something like, "so where'd ya get the fuckin polka version, mister anchovy".

Double Clutchin was a great band in the 90s. These days Chris Ardoin fronts NuStep and his brother Sean fronts ZydeKool. They're fabulous players, even if their choices for band names are so-so.

So, here it is, Papa was a Rolling Stone

If you like this stuff, please support your local Zydeco band.

That's so great, thanks. Have you ever heard Buckwheat Zydeco's cover of "Hey Joe"?

I agree - he does a really great job on that one (and on quite a few recordings!)....at the same time I should say that some years ago, I saw him play at the old Diamond Club, and he was so mediocre.....every song they had some guy announce Buckwheat Zydeco was such and such a recording artist, like I cared what his record company was. Drove me bananas....
Best zydeco show I ever saw was Fernest Arsenault and the Thunders at the Horseshoe back in the bad old 80s

I remember being a 17 year old art student, poking my head into a fully packed Albert's Hall at the Brunswick Tavern and seeing BZ for the first time, looking like Ella Fitzgerald in drag. I didn't know what zydeko was, so the metal washboard vests were really confusing too.

Wasn't Albert's Hall an amazing place in it's day? So many amazing acts came through. I can recall: Sunnyland Slim, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, Sun Seals, Hubert Sumlin, Matt Guitar Murphy, KoKo Taylor, Eddie The Chief Clearwater.....an education in the blues!

Oh yeah Albert's Hall lots of great shows. One of my favorite zydeco shows was Queen Ida!

Hey , we just watched a dvd of favourite band Sublime and thought of you because they play an accordiaon. Remember when I posted the lyrics to their song Santeria? You should check out Sublime,. They are gone now....artistic differences, but they really had a great sound...and an accordion!

This was cool. I'm really not familiar with Zydeco music, but I dug this, man.

ya gotta have soul to love Zydeco - some of my friends look at me when they ask me what I listen to and say "what?" This one has a little different "bent" to what I usually listen to - sort of a git down blues, zydeco combo...like it a lot
