Working in the garden

I worked in the garden all day today, and it's starting to look good. Don't tell anybody but I even planted a few tomatoes. People always get bent out of shape when I plant tomatoes this early because in zone 6, you're not supposed to plant them until the two-four weekend. But the way I look at it, what's the worst thing that can happen? We'll have a frost and they'll freeze....and I'll be out a couple bucks for the plants (yep, I bought them at the garden centre.......ya, I know I'm supposed to grow them from seeds preserved from some funky heritage variety)....and I'll trundle back to the garden centre and buy a few more plants. But the thing is that I do this every year, and they have never froze. One year, it was close, and I had to cover them with newspaper and pots overnight and they were fine. I believe that this is because I live in the city in a well-protected yard, and the danger of frost is not as great as it is in the suburbs. I plant spinach and onions as soon as I can work the soil....I thing the folks in the area think I'm nuts, but I'll be eating spinach in a couple weeks.
