My St. Clair - Prospect Cemetery, Toronto

Newton, originally uploaded by mister anchovy.

What is the tradition going on here? The hand is missing from the right arm of the statue, and there are many wristbands tied on the wrist. There are coins sitting all over the statue, almost anywhere they can balance. We saw two statues with the same symbology happening during our walk through the cemetery today (including missing hand). Does anyone out there know this tradition? What's going on here.

Maybe vandalism cover ups?

hmm a lot of my family is buried in this cemetary. It's too bad there is this kind of thing going on. I live near a cemetary that is about 150 years old and I've seen things that shouldn't be there as well. Makes me wonder if there are any caretakers these days.

I added your blog to my links on my blog. Hope you don't mind.
