Chula

I've been playing a song on the button box for a while that is referred to as a chula, in the Portuguese sense. I had assumed it simply meant folk song, but found this definition on line: a kind of popular music and dance, with overtones of something coarse, common and indecorous......sorta the same thing..... I asked my accordion teacher today - he said a chula is like a corridinho but not as fast. Corridinho means race.
