everything you ever wanted to know....about concertinas
I play both the diatonic button accordion and the piano accordion. When I met my teacher, he referred to my button box as a concertina, and that seems to be common in the portuguese community. The button box isn't a true concertina though. It is, well, it is what it is. There are several different types of concertinas, from the Anglo, to the Duet, to the German or Chemnizter. They have different button layouts, and in the case of the German concertina, a different shape. I think all the varieties are lovely instruments, and one day I'll pick one up and try to learn to play it.
