William & Delia

PB050003, originally uploaded by mister anchovy.

William is about a dozen years old now, and Delia is a year younger. When I brought William home, he howled the blues for three solid days, so I named him Blind Willie McTell (no, he isn't blind). He was Willie for short for many years, but now that he is a respectable and mature cat, we call him William. Delia was named after the Blind Willie McTell song (I was listening to the Bob Dylan version at the time....Delia was a gamblin girl, gambled all around, Delia was a gamblin girl, she laid her money down....all the friends I ever had are gone.....
Delia is adorable, but functions on about 3 active brain cells. William, on the other hand, is smarter than me. If he had opposable thumbs, I'm convinced he would smoke cigars and drink single malt....

They both look very regal and intelligent. I lament that I am allergic to all manner of small furry animals.

Lovely.

But how many cats do you have? I count at least 4 I've seen on here...

Well, Sheila got Twiggy, back in maybe 92...I think Twig was about 2 at the time. Then I got Willie, and a year later, Delia. My father had a young cat, Spud, who I started looking after when his health declined, and who now has adopted us. Sheila and I then married. Then along came a starving tom Sheila called Jerry because he was cross-eyed and looked like Jerry Lewis in the Nutty Professor....he turned out to be the best cat you'll ever meet...then a little over a year ago, one of the neighbourhood strays was beaten up by a dog, and dragged himself to our place looking for help. We got him fixed up (his name is Shadow), and he has been with us since. That makes 6.
