DOCTOR OAKROOT: Love & Death

CD Review - I ordered up Doctor Oakroot's CD, Love and Death, over the internet, from CD Baby. This place is right up my alley - they sell quite a variety of independent music.

This is a solid, very personal, sparse, and somewhat dark album of acoustic blues played on a cigar-box guitar. It has some very personalized takes on traditional tunes I'm familar with, like Diddie Wah Diddie and Corina Corina, but the title cut and an eerie version of The Cat Came Back are the gems. If you have a taste for blues that strays off the beaten path, you're going to enjoy this CD.
