Babka

Here is my mother's recipe for Babka, as it is written in blue ink on the scrap of blue paper, she kept stuffed in her Purity cookbook.
2 yeast
1 c. lukewarm milk
4c flour
1/2 lb butter
3/4 c sugar
5 eggs
1 tsp almond extract
rind of lemon
few raisins
1/3 c. almonds, chopped
dissolve years in milk, then add 1 cup flour
stir and put in warm place till double
cream butter
add sugar a little bit at a time
add eggs 1 at a time
beat 5 minutes
add yeast mixture with the 2c flour
beat 10 minutes then add last c of flour
add flavours and raisin
put in buttered pan
cover and let rise
bake in 350 oven for 40 minutes
let cool in pan
