Caddis Case

Caddis Case, originally uploaded by mister anchovy.

If I'm not careful, people are going to get the impression this is a photo blog... however, I can't resist. Mike Retallick sent me this picture of a caddis case from the upper Credit River. This remarkable piece of architecture is about 5/8 inch long! It was built by a wee worm that is inside it. Eventually the worm will change to a pupa and then an adult caddis fly (the little flies with the tent wings). Along the way, many of them will be gobbled up by the resident trout population.
