I was given a gift the other day - a delightful, late Christmas gift - McSweeney's Quarterly Concern Issue No 13, edited by Chris Ware. I don't know what the other 12 were like, but this one is a collection of comics and essays about comics. It is one of the most beautifully designed books I've seen in some time. I was immediately attracted to an essay about the late work of Philip Guston (Guston was an awesome painter) and its relationship to the comic. I'll report on the book again after I've finished it, but I think I will enjoy this one.
