A blast from the past

We watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith tonight, the 1941 Hitchcock comedy, starring Carol Lombard and Robert Montgomery. We've had the DVD around the house for some time, as part of a collection of Hitchcock films we bought at a charity auction. I've been avoiding this one, although I'm not sure why. Turns out it is a fast-paced romantic comedy, well acted and well written - a very stylish film built around the unlikely premise that a couple who had been married for three years were not legally married due to an obscure jusisdictional problem. This is not up there with North by Northwest or Vertigo, but it is still a fine film that showcases Hitchcock in pure comedy mode. 3 anchovies.
