Rant of the Day - Top Ten Greatest Canadians

OK, what's wrong with this picture? CBC's list of the top 10 "greatest Canadians" (as nominated by Canucks like me and you), includes Don Cherry (I kid you not - is it because he wears wacky suits?), and Wayne Gretzky, a hockey player, once a local hero in Edmonton, before fleeing to the good life in the US of A. I'm sure they are both fine folks, but the 'greatest Canadians'...cmon!
Why are they doing this anyway? It reminds me of the "top 100 songs of ALL TIME" you always hear on pop radio around New Years. Somehow or other, that list always contains Stairway to Heaven. You go figure. The least the CBC could do is forget the public opinion polls (haven't we had enough of that with American Idol) and put together a thoughtful list they thought up themselves - then do some insightful television features on them. Am I asking for too much here?
