what is the Arts Policy Branch and what are they doing?

"The work conducted in this project was primarily descriptive rather than prescriptive in nature. Accordingly, we do not present recommendations for future arts policy, but simply describe the size and structure of the existing market."

This doesn't take a study. A few minutes on your lunch break will do. Ask your friends, "When was the last time you purchased a work of art by a living Canadian artist?" There are some notable exceptions, but don't be surprised if you get back a bunch of blank stares. How many artists do you know who don't have a day job? This isn't an indicator of 'tough times'. Just ask yourself how many of your friends have purchased expensive electronic equipment in the last year.

Let's not ask, "what state is the art market in?". Let's ask, "how can we promote Canadian art, by living Canadian artists, in Canada?" (this question extends to our art institutions too)
